A brief description of County of Botosani

autumn in the park

The municipality of Botoşani is the seat and the largest city of Botoşani county. It has a population of about 115,070 inhabitants and is located in the southwestern part of the county on the interfluve between the rivers Sitna and Dresleuca, to the west between Dresleuca and Siret, then descends between the Crivăţ, Agafton, Baisa hills, in the depths resting on the platform Moldova.

Located in the north-east of Romania, Botoşani stands out for its cultural diversity marked especially by the 4 great geniuses who rose in these lands: Mihai Eminescu (b. Botosani 1850 – 1889), George Enescu (b. Liveni 1881 – 1955) , Nicolae Iorga (b. Botosani 1871 – 1940) and Ştefan Luchian (b. Stefanesti 1868 – 1916). The "City of Ladies", as Botoşani is also called, gave Romanian culture the most personalities, thus becoming a kind of brand of national culture. Coquettish and charming at the same time, Botoşaniul pleasantly surprises the tourist through the oasis of greenery and the wealth of flowers that cover it, through the old architecture of the existing buildings, but also through its typical Moldovan modesty.
